Public Safety Basic Course
This course will cover a refresher of basic 107 airmen knowledge, (we encourage agencies to have operators complete their FAA Part 107 prior to taking this operators course). Instruction will be provided for understanding COA, (Certificate of Authorization) operations and their appropriate use, as well as requests for SGI, (Special Governmental Interest), flights and how to obtain expedited approval. Students will receive classroom instruction as well as hands-on flight experience with their department’s aircraft. This instruction will cover basic flight controls, payload operation and capabilities, system maintenance, and software updates. Students will also train in scenario-based operations like they would experience in real world situations, to include emergency procedures.
-
Tactical Special Operations Course
This course will provide instruction for operations involving SWAT barricade scenarios, active shooter, indoor flying, confined space navigation, and vehicle searches. We will concentrate on precision flying, and communication in real world scenarios.
-
low light / night operations / thermal sensor
This course will focus on the proper use of thermal sensors and UAS lighting systems. Students will learn how to set up and optimize thermal sensors for the changing environments they work in. We will also focus on best case use scenarios for lighting systems and whether the situation calls for thermal or lighting as it applies to officer safety. We will conduct real world search scenarios as the student learns to fine tune sensors and identify thermal targets.
-
crime scene mapping / photgrammetry
This course will teach the student to create an automated flight plan, and safely execute and monitor automated flight. We will create data sets and then process the photos in the department’s software program. The students will be able to collect and process evidence utilizing this new technology that is becoming the new standard for crime scene processing. From mapping city infrastructure to processing shooting scenes, or crash reconstruction, this tool is one your department will want to use for precision and expediency.
-
search and rescue / disaster response
This course will focus on search techniques to locate missing / injured persons day and night. The student will learn search patterns dependent on the environment, size of area to be searched, and information obtained on the missing person. We will focus on communication and integration of ground assets to rapidly locate and rescue our missing person. The student will learn to search a debris field for survivors in a natural or manmade disaster event, (hurricane, fire, tornado, bomb blast). The strategies and tactics learned in the course will allow the department’s UAS operators to efficiently search when time is of the essence to preserve life.

tactical flight officer course
This course provides an in-depth look at the practices and procedures utilized by Public Safety Manned aviation units in communication and coordination between air and ground assets. The student will learn to set quadrants and position officers to maximize the suspect catch percentages. Coordination of ground assets, K9 handlers, and scene management from an aerial perspective is a skill that helicopter units spend 6 months or more training their TFO’s to accomplish. This course is taught by trained Public Safety Helicopter Tactical Flight Officers, that have extensive experience in locating suspects. These officers are also department trained UAS operators and can provide a unique perspective in best practices to maximize the student’s communication and search technique skillset.
